This work is bigger than me...
Personal insight
Pregnancy challenges us. Birth changes us. Motherhood shapes us.
After every birth experience we find ourselves also reborn, unfurled into new versions of ourselves. At least this has been my experience as a Mom of 5- and while I can’t possibly understand and feel the experience of another woman completely, I can be fully present for you. I can meet you with compassion and the wisdom that I’ve gained from my own life experiences. Validating your experience while offering other perspectives, rooted in love.
Affirming the importance of human connection and witnessing is at the very core of what I do. Honoring that our bodies are not machines in need of mechanical repair but living reflections of a perfect design by a higher power. Our bodies are made to work. Birth is made to work.
Birth work however, is not for the faint of heart. While we can find beauty in every story, this work can be heavy and exhausting. Many hear the call to sit with women at the portal of life and death, but actually answering that call is a different story. This work is SACRED. It pushes us to the outer bounds of our very being and everything we think we know and forces us to confront parts of ourselves that we have abandoned or ignored. Through this work, we remember our primordial selves. Simply put, this sh*% is HARD.
So why would anyone choose this life? My answer is that it isn’t just about choosing the life, but also having been chosen to live it. For me there is a constant, undeniable pulling of my soul into this work. Walking with women is undoubtedly my life’s purpose. Birth work IS my soul’s work.
Clinical experience
For over sixteen years, I have walked with women on their journeys into motherhood in various roles. Whether that be as a friend, sister, Nurse, Doula, Monitrice or Student Midwife, I have gained an abundance of clinical skills and knowledge to be used if and when needed. I am continuously adding to this archive of clinical tools through self study, apprenticeship, workshops and continued education courses.
I believe honoring autonomy and free will is a vital part of clinical wisdom. These components of care go hand in hand with self responsibility, which along with self accountability, is the foundation of owning your birth and ultimately living in sovereignty. While clinical insight is helpful and perhaps even necessary at times, it should not overshadow a woman’s innate knowing. Intuition is at the forefront of my life and I strongly encourage women to harness their own intuitive insight when it comes to the health and wellbeing of themselves and their babies. Even with the all the clinical resources and technology that we have at our disposal today, birth is still shrouded in mystery.
“As women, our body is a journey through and through. Each journey similar yet vastly different. Never have I ever had anyone understand this like Nicole. Through several of my life's big journeys, she has undoubtedly been there with her amazing support, guidance, wisdom and love. She's been the literal hand to hold, shoulder to cry on, the laughter through the triumph and the confidant I have always needed. Her experience, love and compassion has given me strength when I didn't think I had any more left in me. These words alone do not do justice for what her companionship means to me.”
